Two Can Keep A Secret

Full of mystery suspense and surprises.

'“The killer claims to back. A small town that keeps losing its homecoming queens. Two murders, still unsolved.’’

‘Two Can Keep A Secret’ features teenage, True Crime enthusiast Ellery and her twin brother Ezra as they move from California to their mother’s small yet mysterious and secret-filled hometown. With two murders having taken place years apart, the residents of Echo Ridge are terrified when the killer claims to be back.

Before reading this book, I was warned that I would need a fair amount of motivation to get through the first few chapters as the beginning was somewhat slow. Whilst I would be inclined to agree I’d personally say that the climatic ending and its completely unexpected plot twist definitely makes it worth the read. As a lover of murder mystery books and having already read ‘One Of Us Is Lying’ I knew that I just had to check out Karen M. McManus’ second book to see if it had just as many shocking twists and turns as the first and by the end I was definitely not left disappointed.

In my opinion, the brilliant character development by McManus is more than enough to make up for the slow beginning as the protagonist Ellery offers sarcasm, wittiness but most importantly authenticity all at the perfect moments. Moreover, her relationships with the other characters, particularly her mother, and experiences throughout the novel shape an incredibly well thought out character arc that is a pleasure to follow along.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys YA fiction and murder mystery!
